Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected from visitors to Emmet County Court Docket, a private Michigan reference resource. It covers direct communications, technical data, cookies, outside search tools, and the limits on records held by this resource. Use of the resource is subject to the practices described here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or case number entered into a search tool is processed by the third-party provider operating that tool. We do not maintain a visitor search-query log. Do not enter protected personal information unless it is necessary for the provider's permitted service and its policy has been reviewed.

Messages and Contact Submissions

If you send an email, the message and contact details may be retained to respond and maintain the communication. They are not sold or shared outside the organization except where a valid legal obligation requires disclosure.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a visitor loads a page, standard server and analytics records may collect technical visit information:

  • IP address assigned to the connection
  • Browser, version, device type, and operating system
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them
  • Referring page or service, where available
  • Date and time of page requests

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small browser files used to understand aggregate traffic and page performance. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, though some site functions may then work differently. Analytics data is used in aggregate rather than to create a court-record profile about a visitor.

What We Do With This Data

Technical and contact data may be used for ordinary operation and security of the resource. Uses include:

  • Maintaining page delivery and service performance
  • Routing a submitted search to the selected partner service
  • Understanding general traffic and content performance
  • Diagnosing service and security issues
  • Serving advertising that may be based on interests

No Court-Record Data on File

Emmet County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case files. It provides public routing information. The official record is maintained by the court of record: the Emmet County Clerk for Circuit Court records, the 90th District Court Clerk's Office for its files, or the 7th Probate District Court Register/Clerk for Probate files. Michigan Court Rule 8.119, not FOIA, governs access to judicial case records.

Third-Party Search Partners

Search boxes are run by outside providers. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy and retention practices. We do not control the provider's result set, pricing, collection, sharing, or security practices. Review the provider's policy before submitting information.

Links to Other Websites

Links to Michigan courts, Emmet County departments, MiCOURT, clerks, and other resources take visitors to independently operated websites. Their terms and privacy practices apply after leaving this resource. Advertising partners may collect activity under their own systems and policies.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited data may be available to these categories of recipients:

  • Search partners processing a visitor's selected query
  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks serving ads on the resource
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal requirement

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for the data collected. No Internet transmission or storage method is completely secure, so absolute protection against every unauthorized access event cannot be guaranteed.

Users Under 18

The resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor provided personal information through a direct communication, contact us so the request can be reviewed and handled as appropriate.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights to request access, correction, deletion, or limits on certain processing of personal information. Michigan court records are different: their access is controlled by MCR 8.119, MCR 1.109, and related court privacy rules, not by a private-site request and not by the county's FOIA process. A visitor may request, where applicable:

  • A copy of personal information retained about that visitor
  • Correction of inaccurate contact information
  • Deletion of information where retention is not required
  • Limits on certain data processing where law provides that option

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy when practices or legal requirements change. The then-current version will appear here with a revised effective date.

Effective date: August 27, 2026
